The Grand Exit

The grand exit, it's what lots of couples think their wedding needs to end with. That movie wedding ending where their guests send them off by throwing rice as they run passed or a long line of arching sparklers... but what if your venue doesn't allow rice or have a brunch wedding or it's the middle of the summer and the sun doesn't go down until 10pm? There are so many other options! I've had couples do bubbles, confetti popper, flower petals, birdseed, or glow sticks! OR you could get really creative like Jenny and David did for their brunch wedding. They had their guests toss paper airplanes! It was so much fun and something really unique and different. So before you automatically go with what you see all over Pinterest, stop and think about if there is something more specific to you guys. You might come up with something super cute that will be the next Pinterest rage :)

Danny and Courtney

Next week we are going to have our toes in the sand and will be enjoying the warm sunshine on our (incredibly pale) skin in MEXICO. I am so excited! We are going to celebrate the love of one of my oldest friends and the guy who is lucky enough to go through life with her. Courtney and I have known each other since we were awkward pre teens on rival school sports teams. We went on to become volleyball teammates in high school and college, co-coaches for two years after college, and she was even the one who introduced me to Jason! Courtney is one of those people who you always know your are going to have a good time with... I mean she has a yellow Xterra with a custom horn that plays La Cucaracha... It's easy to say that Danny will never be bored :) I really am so happy for both of them and cannot wait to be there to document and be a part of their wedding week! Love you so much, Court!

Oh... and about this engagement session. Ya know what, sometimes things just don't go as planned. As I was driving to the location we had agreed upon I got a call from Courtney saying that it was closed! I immediately began sweating and racking my brain for another area we could meet... timing is so important when doing a portrait session, so having to go for plan B could have been meant we would miss that beautiful golden light! Thankfully we were able to sweet talk the ranger into allowing us into a small section of the park for a short amount of time and seriously... I think it worked out perfectly. Sometimes those road blocks lead to something better than you can plan for and as a photographer I have learned that you just have to roll with the punches, keep it positive, and make it work! These are just some of my favorites from Danny and Courtney's beautiful engagement session... plus, how adorable is their dog?!

2017: A Year of Change... 2018: Let's Do This!

It's 2018, how did that happen?? I feel like I was just getting used to saying it was 2017 and now it's over! 2017 was such an amazingly crazy year full of new experiences, adventures, and change... lots of change. As most of you know, my husband and I welcomed our first baby into the world on March 11th last year. Forrest Henry has been absolutely amazing... he has also been part of monumental changes for us. (For two people who value their sleep very highly it has been challenging at times!) One thing that becoming a mother has taught me is to slow down and enjoy the moment as things go by way too quickly.

So, with that said... one of my resolutions for 2018 is to share more moments. Sometimes it's the small moments in a day that are the things that stand out the most. This is true for both my personal and professional life.

Another resolution for this year (as it seems with every year) is to blog more consistently. It always seems like such a simple thing and yet it becomes daunting to keep up with shooting, editing, family and friends... blogging always seems to get pushed to the bottom of the to do list. I am going to attempt to blog at least once a week. Whether it is just to share a moment that stood out to me from the week, a shoot, a wedding, or the a full story of a wedding day.  Wednesdays will now be blogging day! (and yes, I do realize it's Friday... so I guess this is a special blog post...)

Today's moment is just one of those things that you can never plan for on a wedding day. As I was prepping the bridal suite before the bride and her maids came to take some photos I noticed that there was a box of Lucky Charms next to the bed. As I was moving them out of the frame one of the bridesmaids said, "Oh, those are Alex's bed snacks." Bed snacks? I thought, well that just sounds like an excellent idea that I might have to implement into my own life. Also, I should get a picture of Alex with her 'bed snacks!' So, when she walked in I told her how I had discovered her stash and that I wanted a photo of her with the box. Somehow it morphed into taking a sequence of photos of her truly enjoying her Lucky Charms!

I hope you enjoy this little moment from Alex and Keith's House on Metolius wedding day.
